Of about 8.2 million people inoculated with China’s Sinopharm vaccine, 13 have died and 12 others suffered severe side effects, according to the Chulabhorn Royal Academy (CRA).

The royal academy, under the patronage of HRH Princess Chulabhorn, was the first agency to import the Sinopharm vaccine from China, as alternative to address the government’s shortage of vaccines.

According to the CRA’s information centre, of the 13 fatalities, 2 were linked to COVID-19 infection, 2 were due to myocardial ischemia, 2 suffered heart failure, 4 had other underlying diseases, 1 had untreated HIV, 1 suffered from cardiac arrhythmia and 1 suffered a cerebrovascular rupture.

Of the 12 who suffered severe side effects, 4 suffered a blood clot in the brain, 4 suffered a cerebrovascular rupture, 1 had myocardial ischemia and 3 suffered a severe allergic reaction to the vaccine.

The four most common side effects among 5,160,920 people receiving their first jab of Sinopharm vaccine are headache (0.48%), muscle pain (0.37%), fatigue (0.34%), pain at the injection site (0.33%) and fever (0.32%).

Side effects experienced on the day of injection of the first jab were 0.49% (25,246). On the following day it was 0.60% (31,096) and, within a week of the injection, 0.17% (8,973).

The four most common side effects among the 3,047,177 people who have received their second dose are headache (0.17%), pain at the injection site (0.15%), muscle pain (0.14%), fatigue (0.12%) and fever (0.1%).

On the day of the second dose injection, the side effects appeared in 0.06% or 1,856 cases, one day later, 0.20% or 6,029 cases and within a week, 0.11% or 3,393 cases.
