With Chinese New Year just around the corner, many fashion brands have launched a special collection in celebration of the festive season and the arrival of the new zodiac sign — the Year of the Tiger. As it is believed that donning new clothing at the start of the new year can bring in good luck, brands like Dior, Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana have definitely nailed the assignment with its tiger-print collection.

Elsewhere, brands tapped on auspicious colours like red and orange such as Prada and Bottega Veneta. The stripes of the tiger is also a favourite for many brands like Valentino and Fendi. Ahead is a list of brands that you can take your fashion inspiration from.

Gucci

The tiger has been a mainstay for the House of Gucci since creative director Alessandro Michele took over as creative director of the brand. For this year’s Chinese New Year, Gucci has launched its “Gucci Tiger” collection. Various renditions of the stately animal are featured on the array of ready-to-wear and accessories set against a reinterpretation of the house’s 1960s archival floral prints designed by Vittorio Accornero.

The majestic feline is also featured in the campaign images alongside models carrying items from the new collection such as the tan “GG” print sports jacket with contrasting Gucci-navy red and white sleeves and cuffs. Also shown is a tan leather handbag with “GG” print overlay and red “Gucci Tiger” plastered across.

Prada

To celebrate the Lunar New Year, the Milan-based fashion house has released a capsule collection that not only features items from its Linea Rossa line, where the colours red, black and white take centre stage, it is also making a donation to the “Walking with Tiger and Leopard” programme of China Green Foundation. The aim is to contribute to the conservation of the endangered Amur Tiger.

For this campaign, the brand has invited two famous faces from the showbiz world: actor and singer Li Yifeng and actress Chun Xia. Both are decked in sporty red-accented Prada apparel.

Louis Vuitton

The French Maison celebrates the Year of the Tiger with a whimsical “Precious Tiger” capsule collection. The tiger motif appears on a range of textiles, jewellery, accessories and luxury homewares. The highlight would definitely be the Precious Tiger Square, which is made from 100 per cent silk and depicts the majestic animal resting on the iconic Louis Vuitton trunk, surrounded by a swirl of jungle leaves. Other interesting items include the puzzle set, Tiger Cups, bag charms and key holders.

Dior

For the men’s collection, Dior has once again collaborated with painter Kenny Scharf. To usher in the Year of the Tiger — Water Tiger, to be specific — the artist reinterpreted the feline in a cartoonish form. The tiger motif appears as a print on shirts, embroidered onto knitwear or as a patch on denim. Elsewhere on the men’s jewellery and the brand’s B27 sneakers, the star of the new year also makes its appearance.

Unlike the usual trope of the tiger, the Dior Women’s Chinese New Year capsule collection celebrates the return of spring. The poetic design features flowers and butterflies in Monsieur Dior’s favourite shade of red. The beautiful creature adorns the brand’s bags such as the Lady Dior, Saddle and Book Tote. Its ready-to-wear collection is also emblazoned with butterflies and floral motifs.

In a discreet move, Bottega Veneta’s such as Cassette intrecciato leather bag is spotted with a subtle tiger pattern. The other products by the brand are rendered in various shades of orange.

First appeared as the opening look for its Haute Couture Fall/Winter 1967-68 collection, the stripes of the tiger now found its way to this year’s Chinese New Year collection. The motif is applied to items such as shorts, hoodies, and Valentino Garavani accessories like bucket hats and rockstud bags.

Featuring in this campaign is Cheng Xiao, who is seen carrying the Valentino Garavani Locò bag while the other celebrity, Zhou Zilin is paired with a Roman Stud handle bag.

The collection will be available in selected Valentino boutiques worldwide including Marina Bay Sands Singapore, Westfield Sydney Australia and Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Dolce & Gabbana

According to Chinese history, the tiger reigns as king of the jungle — a symbol of strength and braveness. It has also been associated with good fortune and peace. To encapsulate these qualities, Dolce & Gabbana pays homage to the feline with a special collection. A selection of new prints with a contemporary and dynamic flavour is chosen and rendered in a vibrant colour palette that calls to mind the natural environment the tiger normally resides in.

Across the men, women and kid’s lines, exquisite drawings of tigers with their noble and fierce look are translated onto clothes, bags, shoes and other accessories. This tiger-printed collection is sure to be a go-to this Chinese New Year.

The collection is available online and in stores.
