KUALA LUMPUR — The government has plans to separate the functions of the Attorney-General and public prosecutor, adding that this would ensure justice and fulfil the principle of the rule of law as well as avoid any conflict of interest, says Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
In a statement, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said this was being considered in order to build confidence in the country’s judicial system as well as the Attorney General’s Chambers.
“The Federal government is open and ready for taking initiatives to safeguard integrity and public confidence for Attorney General Chambers and judiciary.
“The matter will be added after doing a comparative study with other countries which will appropriate to our legal system.
“The government is not opposed to consider to form RCI if there is a necessity based on facts, legality and concerns of integrity and confidence against the legislature as well as act as advisory to the government in legal aspects and be gatekeepers of criminal justice,” he added.
