Japan National Tourism Organization completes successful 2021 virtual roadshow


Japan National Tourism Organization’s (JNTO) first virtual trade roadshow in market recorded incredible results, welcoming an impressive 80 plus trade attendees, 35 Japanese suppliers and two airlines. Over 400 meetings took place over two specially curated virtual events, connecting agents and wholesalers with local suppliers and successfully equipping Australian and New Zealand trade to sell Japan once international travel resumes.

Hosted through TravTrade’s virtual events platform and coordinated by GTI, on 10 November for the Japan Virtual Roadshow Product Development Session, over 30 wholesalers (including three brands from New Zealand) had one-on-one meetings with 35 Japanese suppliers. Key representatives across Japan joined JNTO including Tokyo Tourism, JR East Hotels, Camellia Tea Ceremony, Luxury Travel Japan, as well as a range of other DMOs, DMCs, accommodation partners and attractions. Over 30 per cent of the suppliers registered were new to market. Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways also hosted additional virtual networking meeting rooms.

On 17 November, over 50 travel agents from Australia and New Zealand attended JNTO’s Japan Virtual Roadshow Agent Education Session. Agents undertook small group training sessions with Japanese suppliers and an origami demonstration by Sydney Japanese contemporary artist Midori Furze, to recreate the famous Japanese crane.

Across both events JNTO provided attendees with updates on the destination from key speakers; Yoko Tanaka, JNTO Sydney Office Executive Director and Sally Miles, JNTO Business Development & Marketing Senior Assistant Manager.

We are delighted to support the travel industry in preparation to sell Japan for 2022 and beyond, as we look forward to the return of travel to come”, commented Yoko Tanaka, JNTO.
