Melaka — Some 61% of the voters in Melaka state election on Saturday turned up to cast their rights as at 4pm reported in the SPR twitter.
The voting process started earlier today at 8am with strict SOPs adhered by the Election Commission officials.
According to Bernama, EC chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh also went to the ground to observe the voting process at several locations and ensure it went smoothly.
A total of 217 polling stations and 1,109 voting streams in 28 constituencies will open from 8am to 5.30pm, under tight standard operating procedures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
There are 476,037 ordinary voters out of a total of 495,195 registered voters in the state.
The Melaka state election was called following the dissolution of the state assembly on Oct 4, following of four state assemblymen in withdrawing support for the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali last month.
