National Day 2020 looks set to be a muted affair, no thanks to the current climate.
For one, most of us won’t be scoring a seat this year’s National Day Parade, which will be a drastically scaled-down occasion with reduced audience numbers in accordance with safety precautions. It’s also unlikely that we’ll be jostling with spectators at our favourite (free) vantage points just to catch a glimpse of the fireworks display.
We can celebrate in other ways, though, such as with a sumptuous feast while watching the livestream of the parade. Many restaurants have released National Day-themed menus, and these range from dine-in specials to delivery-only exclusives. Some of these venues even boast incredible views of the city skyline and fireworks as an added bonus.
If you still can’t decide whether to stay home or venture out, we’ve put together a list of dine-in, takeaway and delivery menus worth trying this National Day 2020.

If you’d rather avoid the crowds and watch the parade at home while comfortably curled up on the couch, consider getting Tablescape’s National Day Sofa Menu for two, which comprises seven savoury treats and three desserts.
Presented in bite-sized portions for easy snacking and minimal mess, these include a velvety foie gras terrine set atop fluffy brioche and pear compote, decadent blinis bedecked with lobster salad and avruga caviar, and Pizza Di Scarola, a baked pie crammed with capers, anchovies, black olives and yellow frisée salad. Perched on the 33rd floor of Marina Bay Financial Centre, Level33 offers unobstructed views of the city skyline and — more importantly — the fireworks display. We suggest reserving a table on its open-air terrace to get closer to the action, and grabbing a drink or two from its extensive repertoire of freshly brewed craft beers.
Enjoy these with the restaurant’s National Day Platter, a sumptuous mix of Hainanese chicken sliders, binchotan-grilled Iberico pork char siew skewers, stingray croquettes with sambal aioli, salted egg fries and sweet potato fries.

In the spirit of National Day, why not tuck into some hearty Modern Singaporean fare? One-Michelin-starred Labyrinth has created two special dishes inspired by the red and white hues of the national flag. The Wagyu Moonlight Hor Fun puts a luxurious spin on the zichar staple by incorporating tender strips of wagyu shortrib topped with a wobbly free range egg yolk, while Chilli Crab is a dainty appetiser of local flower crab meat mixed with Russian caviar and egg white dashi custard.
These tempting highlights are part of the restaurant’s lunch ($78 ) and dinner ($128 /$188 ) menus on 9 August.

There’s nothing like an unlimited flow of food and bubbly to put anyone in a good mood. Over at Zafferano, bask in the festivities with a decadent champagne brunch featuring Italian dishes like risotto with saffron and robiola cheese, Margherita pizza, roasted veal with tuna sauce, and tiramisu. The food is served at the table, and is accompanied by Singapore Sling cocktails and a free flow of champagne, sparkling wine, house wines and beer. The brunch ($118 to $148 per person) takes place on 8 and 9 August from 12pm to 3pm.
If watching the fireworks is on your agenda, skip the brunch and splurge on dinner ($298 per person) instead at the restaurant’s Terrace Lounge, which boasts front row seats at the floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Marina waterfront. The four-course feast features orange-cured foie gras, housemade tagliolini with Hokkaido uni, a semifreddo dessert, and main course options of charcoal-grilled wagyu striploin or silver cod with an Amalfi lemon emulsion. Seating at the Terrace Lounge is limited 20 diners, so make your reservations early.

To mark Singapore’s 55th birthday, Overeasy has assembled a Linebacker Platter priced at $55 and brimming with its popular American diner bites such as mac and cheese, spicy buffalo wings, rosemary and parmesan fries, and smoked cheddar corn dogs. Local flavours take the spotlight at 15 Stamford, which has introduced a National Day four-course set inflected with Singaporean ingredients. Served during lunch and dinner from 1 to 31 August, the meal kicks off with a Bloody Mary Ice Brick — a refreshing appetiser of Amaebi (sweet shrimp), Kyuri cucumber, sago and plum soil — followed by a comforting tooth congee garnished with scallop floss, salted egg and spice oil.
This segues into a scrumptious main of Black Angus beef short rib tossed with curry chickpeas, broccolini, pulled wild rice and yellow mustard jus. For dessert, dig into the restaurant’s rendition of chendol, which is jazzed up with gula melaka curd, pandan jelly, coconut water espuma, and red bean ice cream.

Why confine yourself to one cuisine, when you can have a variety? This “ghost kitchen” operating at Marina One serves up food from Mod-Sin eatery The Spot, steakhouse Wakanui and Asian-European fusion establishment Perch. It’s offering family bundles showcasing highlights from its restaurants’ repertoires. The Merlin Bundle for two ($68 nett), for example, includes a laksa lobster bisque, salted egg baby squid, XO tiger prawn capellini, and ondeh ondeh kueh lapis (pictured).
Those craving a more protein-heavy meal can consider the Istana Bundle for four ($258 nett), which comprises a 21-days dry aged Ocean Beef ribeye, spring lamb chops and Canterbury grass-fed fillet, complemented with sides of mashed potatoes and truffle potato wedges. A smaller, similar bundle for two is also an option.

For a quieter dining experience away from the hustle and bustle of town, head over to Cassia at Capella Singapore. The Cantonese restaurant will present special lunch ($55 per person) and dinner ($88 ) set menus on 8 and 9 August. For lunch, expect to savour double-boiled chicken soup with abalone and French morel mushrooms, braised sea cucumber, and a dim sum platter comprising a steamed crystal dumpling with truffle, deep fried scallop with yam paste and wasabi mayonnaise, and a steamed charcoal-barbecued pork bun.
Dinner is a more indulgent affair, with dishes like double-boiled soup that’s served in a coconut and paired with a lobster claw dumpling, a barbecued meat platter, and baked cod with wok-fried prawn prepared ‘Bi Feng Teng’ style — where the prawn is buried under a heap of fried garlic and chilli.
