PHUKET: An Australian man died from Covid-19 on Tuesday but no new cases were reported, leaving the accumulated total in this southern province at 220 for the fourth day in a row, the provincial communicable disease committee announced on Wednesday.
The Australian man, 69, was the province’s 3rd fatality from the novel coronavirus.
He was the manager of a hotel in Khao Lak area in Phangnga province to the north of Phuket. He was in Phuket during March 19-21, fell sick on March 24 and became the province’s 63rd Covid-19 patient. He did not travel abroad during the 14 days before becoming unwell. The man had suffered from a chronic lung ailment and had previously been treated at a clinic.
Of the total of 220 patients in Phuket, 180 have recovered and been released, three died and 36 are still under treatment but in satisfactory condition. One of the patients died after a motorcycle accident.
On Tuesday night, 16 people — 11 Thai and five Myanmar nationals — were arrested for breaking the 10pm-4am curfew by teams of administrative officials and territorial defence volunteers in various locations across the island resort province.
