KUALA LUMPUR: The Government and the Steering Committee for Transformation and Political Stability today agreed to give two -thirds support to the amendment to the Federal Constitution involving the enabling clause, under Article 10.

In a statement today, both parties said the amendment was to empower the enactment of a new act related to the ban on Dewan Rakyat members changing parties.

In addition, according to the statement, the preliminary draft of the act will be circulated for the scrutiny of members of the Steering Committee on Transformation and Political Stability before a special session of Parliament on April 11, 2022.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law), Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar and the Steering Committee on Transformation and Political Stability today reached a consensus on several follow-up actions related to the law prohibiting Members of the House of Representatives from changing parties. for the purpose of presentation in a special session of Parliament on 11 April 2022.

“In addition, both parties agreed for another Special Session of Parliament to be held to table, discuss, and approve relevant laws in the near future which will be announced by the Right Honorable Prime Minister, in accordance with Rule 11 (3) of the Regulations. Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara, ”according to the statement.

Apart from that, the statement said, Wan Junaidi had also clarified that the special session of Parliament scheduled for 11 and 12 April 2022 will continue as planned.

The two days have been allotted to table and debate the Constitution (Amendment) (No. 3) Bill 2022.

“Both parties have stated their commitment to provide support to enable this Bill to get a two-thirds majority in the special session of Parliament on 11 and 12 April 2022,” according to the statement.

The statement was made by Wan Junaidi and the Co -Chairman of the Steering Committee for Transformation and Political Stability, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution.
