Overseas arrivals at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi international airport in April increased by 65.97%, to an average of 11,623 passengers a day, compared to 7,003 daily arrivals in March, since the removal of the pre-departure COVID-19 RT-PCR test requirement, said Kittipong Kittikachorn, director of the airport today (Wednesday).

In-bound flights have averaged 141 a day since the beginning of April, compared to an average of 137 in March, representing an increase of 2.92%, said Kittipong.

He also said that many arriving passengers have not had to spend a night at their pre-booked “SHA Extra+” or alternative quarantine hotels, while waiting for the results of their RT-PCR tests upon arrival, because the results are taking much less time to be returned. They are, however, still required to take a rapid antigen test five days after their arrival in the country.

He went on to say that Suvarnabhumi airport opened another arrival terminal on April 1st, in addition to the E, F and G terminals, to accommodate arriving passengers, and has opened more immigration counters, which are now capable of processing 4,080 arrivals per hour, instead of 3,450 previously.

Since April 1st, the airport has been servicing 53,627 in-bound and out-bound domestic and international passengers a day, an increase of 27.01% over last month.
