Henry Aldridge & Son-Devizes sold the watch along with other memorabilia that stakeholders recovered from the ship.

According to the auction house, the item belonged to postal clerk Oscar Scott Woody.

This consists of a gilt Ingersoll pocket watch with a black ribbon fob, charm, and a yellow metal watch chain. Woody wore these when the Titanic hit the iceberg and sank.

The watch has since become part of exhibitions in prestigious museums worldwide. These include The Smithsonian Postal Museum and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

“This watch represents one of the most iconic and important pieces of Titanic memorabilia offered for auction in recent years,” Henry Aldridge and Son concluded.
