Thailand is introducing yacht quarantine program for its tourists with the hope to increase its yacht tourism revenue by 1.8 billion baht. All the tourists who want to benefit from this exciting option have to show valid proof of a negative PCR test along with their health and location being monitored. The commencement of the pilot program was done in November and now it is being anticipated that approx. 100 yachts will be a part of the program which is presently taking place in Phuket.
A deep dive in Thailand’s yacht quarantine program
Travellers who are picking the option of yacht quarantine program are required to fulfil the criteria of wearing a smart wristband which will keep a track of the following essentials:
- The watch will monitor fundamental signs such as blood pressure and temperature.
- The watch will be transmitting all the vital information at sea and that too within the radius of 10 km.
The yacht quarantine is being enhanced by the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) with mobile operator Advanced Info Service, local tech start-up, and tourism operators in Phuket. The boats will be tracked and monitored by Royal Thai Navy members. When the tourists have completed the duration of the 14-day quarantine will be permitted to enter the island in Phuket.
Thailand is dependent on tourism for generating its revenue and during the pandemic they have suffered from a loss of more than 320 billion baht ($10.407). With the yacht quarantine, Thailand is optimistic to boost up their economy by generating a revenue of 1.8 billion baht as Thailand plans to open its borders from October.
