Looking for a safe place away from the city to spend a much-needed staycation? Here are 12 private rentals for you to choose from!

Nowadays, private stays are preferable to ensure that our families can enjoy a much-needed break without putting ourselves at risk. Fortunately, there are superb private rentals that offer various accommodations and experiences. The best part? They’re just a short drive from the Metro!

Let’s start the year by bookmarking these listings and booking our spots early on as these places get fully booked quickly. Here are my top 12 private staycation destinations that you need to check out, stat!

12. Cabo de Roca Villas

Just 3 hours away from the Metro and located in Pundaquit, Zambales, Cabo de Roca Villas is one of our favorite family vacation spots. With its extensive beachfront shoreline that stretches towards a majestic mountain view and its close proximity to nearby islands with white sand beaches, Cabo de Roca offers a private stay while giving your family a much-needed beach escape.

Their private vacation rental villa, Casa Do Guincho, is a 3BR beach house—perfect for family holidays and can accommodate up to 15 guests. It has a fully equipped kitchen too, so you can prepare your own meals, or do as we do, and just ask their staff to prepare delicious meals for you.

What’s more, the villa doors slide open, leading to the pool, where you can see the glorious sunset that graces the front of Cabo.

11. The Ranch

Sometimes you just want a change of scenery from the beach and would rather escape to a greener and more tranquil space. Get to know this 7-hectare private destination at the foot of Mount Makiling, which offers ranch-style living in their elegantly appointed 3BR villa. Enjoy the cozy and spacious abode with loved ones or embrace the majestic outdoor view of Arabian Stallion horses galloping around the nearby stable.

The Ranch is also perfect for little ones who love horses and enjoy the riding experience. Or if you just want to chill, the villa also has a pool—complete with a slide—for a fun playful experience.

10. San Ysidro Farm

Not your box standard farm stay, San Ysidro Farm certainly elevated the farm stay destination with their 2-hectare private property—located just an hour from Alabang. The modern farmhouse itself is tastefully furnished, with comfortably plush bedrooms and their own lanai area for relaxation, reading, and lounging.

The expansive grounds are also well-maintained and are brimming with fruit trees like mangoes, rambutan, and so forth. There are also adorable farm animals, which was the highlight of our stay for my little ones. They loved checking on the bunnies, feeding the chickens, saying hello to the goats, and also letting our dog walk around the grounds.

There is also a gazebo by the poolside—equipped with an open-aired dining area, open bar, and a parrilla for all your grilling needs. Definitely all set up for a memorable get-together in a private space you can enjoy as a family.

9. Ellsworth Cabin

Adventure begins even before you get to Ellsworth Cabin, so get ready for a totally immersive glamping experience. Once you arrive at Daraitan in Tanay, Rizal, you will need to cross the Agos River, ride a 4×4, cross the river again, and trek a bit to get to your destination. All with the stunning mountain ranges of Rizal as your adventure backdrop. Pack up your day with river tubing, horse riding, trek to Tinipak River, and even some offroad driving if the weather permits.

The newly-built Ellsworth Cabin sits atop the side of Agos River. This A-style frame accommodation comes with a bedroom that literally lets you watch the night sky as you lay in bed to sleep. It’s also spacious for a family stay and comes with its own kitchen, dining, and bar area if you wanna cater for yourself.

But the staff can also cook your meals, which we requested during our stay. All the dishes were delicious—they completed our mountain living experience.

8. Ataalaya Farm House

Situated atop a cliff—surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens—is Ataalaya Farmhouse. It offers a tranquil escape from the busyness of the Metro. This is a place that allows you to breathe in the fresh air, relish in the views of Taal Lake, and bask under cool sunshine-filled days while forgetting your to-do list for a while.

The best feature of this place, aside from the views and comfortable surroundings, is the heated outdoor jacuzzi. Here, you can sit and enjoy the view, sip your bubbly and let the warm water ease the tension from your body.

It is also surrounded by so many plants, so any plantita will be heart-happy just going around with their gardener while getting to know all these beautiful blooms. It is also next to a farm (just across the road) so you can drop by there and feed the animals.

7. Bask House

A modern minimalist beach house in Batangas, Bask House comes with ocean views and a pool in a manicured garden—ready for the ultimate staycation relaxation. The rooms here are spacious and comfortable and even include modern bathroom amenities. This private 4BR rental can fit a big family and comes with a complete kitchen too for your food preps.

The beach is also just across the street, and it only takes a minute to go over to feel the comfort of the seawater.

6. Espacio Villas

Currently on my wish list, Espacio Villas is a 6BR beach villa in Calatagan, Batangas that has just started accepting reservations this year. If you have a special celebration this year, you definitely should start locking in your dates and booking early as this place will be very popular, especially during the summer holidays.

5. Porto at Balai Lahi

One of my cherished discoveries from last year’s travels was Porto in Balai’ La-Hi, a private beach house and sanctuary located in Marinduque. At first, I was concerned about how to get there since it was located on a separate little island and we were meant to take the car, but our host provided us with everything we needed to have a seamless trip from Manila to Boac.

Marked in my discoveries as a place to return to, Balai-Lahi is a place that grows on you quickly with its unassuming charm that welcomes your tired weary city soul into its arms. Even now my kids still talk about our trip here, and always ask when we will return to see Gussy and the rest of the furry residents here.

Moreover, Marinduque is a stunning island to explore, and a visit to Balai-Lahi will give you the perfect opportunity to get to know this island a little bit more.

4. Calatagan Beach House

This summer beach house is a little gem—nothing fancy and not set up for Instagram—but it offers so many simple joys that my kids were busy all day outside during our trip here. From the hammocks hanging by the tree on their beachfront to the bonfire set up, the little balsa, the sand bar, and even the Intex pool, all made this beach house a great place of escape and playtime fun.

3. Camper and Cabin

If you have not been to Camper and Cabin, then it really must be in your list of places to checkout this 2022. Opened just in early 2021, this mountainside property in Calaca is perched on top of a hill, with a sweeping 360-degree view of the stunning Mount Batulao, distant Balayan Bay, and rolling Nasugbu farmlands.

Cool mountain breeze present all year round, you won’t need to trek all the way to Baguio to experience the cool weather. With the promise of modern boutique hotel comfort, the cabins offered here ensure an elevated stay experience. Plus, they’ve added a bonfire pit with a full s’mores set to go with it. You definitely shouldn’t miss this during your stay!

Did I catch your attention? My 2021 entry talks more about my stay in Camper and Cabin. Check it out!

2. El Rapaz Yacht

If you are looking for a sea adventure, you can actually stay overnight in a yacht! Yes, you read that right! You can charter the El Rapaz, a 60ft Trimaran, or the El Alavanco, a 42ft Sailcruiser, for a day trip or even overnight stay. They’ll pick you up at Batangas port and take you on a cruise, an island hopping adventure, or to a popular snorkeling or free diving spot. They also have water sports equipment on board—from kayaks to snorkeling gear, and even a banana boat to complete your water fun.

You can pack up your own food and drinks, but they also have an amazing chef on board who cooks a mean paella, so don’t miss out on trying that. What’s more, you can also arrange for a boodle fight meal to be set up in one of the islands during your stay.

And finally, complete the experience with a stunning sunset dinner or sunrise watching before you return to the city.

1. Dalum

Dalum in La Union—always on my wish list, but a place I have not had a chance to visit yet. Located at the mountainside area of Dalumpinas Oeste, roughly a kilometer away from Surftown, is a humble kubo sanctuary. Originally a vacation house for private use, the doors of Dalum are now open to provide rest and relaxation to guests who are looking for some peace and quiet from their busy lives and schedules.

And the great thing is, you can actually rent the whole kubo. That way, you can enjoy a private and safe stay for your family.
