With the Netflix series having returned to screens on  9th November TV fans from across the world are being told of the top filming locations to visit from The Crown. Consumer experts at NetVoucherCodes.co.uk have researched eight hotspots from around the UK to answer all the burning questions about where the hit show was filmed.

The fifth season of The Crown which aired earlier this month, has a focus on historic events such as Princess Diana’s divorce from King Charles and the year which Queen Elizabeth described as “Annus Horribilis”. Fans of the show who come to visit the UK in hopes of seeing grand sites from the series, may be surprised to learn that many locations in the show were not filmed around London or in royal sites like Sandringham Estate and Windsor Castle.

Numerous sights across the UK have been used to film iconic parts of The Crown, including the grand Wilton House where ‘Buckingham Palace’ was set is in fact filmed in Salisbury. Mitch Barnes, online consumer expert at NetVoucherCodes.co.uk said: “With the latest season of The Crown now appearing on screens, fans across the globe may be stunned about how widespread the filming locations are found across the UK. “From Aberdeen to Winchester – locations for the hit show have been found in various cities in the UK.

“TV lovers who want to visit the real-life locations such as the show’s versions of Buckingham Palace and Sandringham Estate, can experience the grand historic buildings in Grantham and Salisbury. “We’ve even found the location where some of the season five scenes of Windsor Castle are going to be taking place – where tourists can explore the beautiful town of Lincoln!”

Here are filming locations across the UK used in the Netflix show The Crown by NetVoucherCodes.co.uk:

  1. Northern Quarter, Manchester – ‘New York City’

Princess Diana’s trip to New York was monumental during the AIDS epidemic and during the show, this segment was filmed in the northern region of Manchester rather than in the States. While the area has been returned to its original form it’s still a great sight to check off the list and to visit some local bars and record shops.

  1. Slains Castle, Aberdeen Scotland – ‘Castle Mey’

The Scottish site where the Queen’s Mother previously owned and lived in frequently, takes place in Slains Castle in Aberdeen. The historic building was constructed in the late 1500s and has been used as a stunning sight during the first season of The Crown.

  1. Somerleyton Hall, Suffolk – ‘Sandringham Estate’

The beloved Sandringham, where the royals typically stay during the Christmas period, is filmed in the Victorian stately home – Somerleyton Hall. The Hall was used in the most recent fourth season of the crown including the seasonal finale of the family Christmas picture, where the place was transformed to imitate the royal estate.

  1. Winchester Cathedral, Winchester – ‘St. Paul’s Cathedral’

The Winchester Cathedral has been used as the scene for several moments throughout The Crown including Winston Churchhill’s funeral, Princess Diana and King Charles wedding as well as Lord Mountbatten’s funeral.

  1. Belvoir Castle, Grantham – ‘Windsor Castle’

Windsor Castle is widely known to be Queen Elizabeth’s favourite estate and is where she spent most of her time during her reign. In the show, Belvior castle was used to represent the estate, which is located in Grantham Leicestershire – short of a two and a half hour drive from Windsor Castle.

  1. Wilton House, Salisbury – ‘Buckingham Palace’

An iconic sight well-known for its register of iconic filming locations for royalist films and shows including Bridgerton and The Young Victoria. Wilton House or rather known as ‘Buckingham Palace’ in The Crown, is located in Salisbury which is approximately 85 miles away from the real-life palace and has been used as the interior of the palace on the show.

  1. Burghley House, Lincolnshire – ‘Windsor Castle’ Season four and five

Since the change in location for season four, Burghley House in Lincolnshire once again takes the throne in the latest season of The Crown. This season is set to focus on historic events such as the devastating fire at Windsor which destroyed over 100 rooms in the castle.

  1. London’s Lyceum, London – ‘Royal Variety Show’

Located on Wellington Street in London, the grand theatre which is notoriously known for hosting The Lion King was used in the earlier seasons of the show where Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip visited for the Royal Variety Show.
