KAPAR: A total of 40 premises selling basic necessities in Selangor were found to be suffering from a shortage of chicken eggs through Ops Terjah by the state’s Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), from Dec 17 until yesterday.
Selangor KPDN director Mohd Zuhairi Mat Radey said it was detected as a result of an inspection of 110 premises involving public markets, mini markets, grocery stores, small hawker stalls and eateries in the state.
He said three premises were also found to have a shortage of chicken supply, while 26 premises were identified as lacking in the supply of subsidized packet cooking oil and only one premises did not have the oil in stock.
“We found that the supply of chicken eggs and subsidized packet cooking oil has mostly decreased in Petaling Jaya, however the supply of other basic necessities such as bottled cooking oil and wheat flour is stable,” he told reporters after Ops Terjah at a supermarket here today.
According to him, Ops Terjah’s main focus is on consumer goods such as sugar, cooking oil, wheat flour, rice, wet goods (including chicken and chicken eggs) and goods for making confectionery
He said the Selangor KPDN also uses a traffic light mechanism system to monitor the supply of basic necessities such as chicken, chicken eggs and cooking oil.
“The system uses the color code green (sufficient supply), yellow (lack of supply) and red (no supply) to facilitate us to take comprehensive action to ensure that the supply of these needs is not affected due to certain factors,” he said.
