Manpower and heavy equipment have been sent to the scene of Saturday’s bomb blast in Sadao district of Songkhla, to remove several derailed train carriages and repair damaged sections of track.

Officials of the State Railway of Thailand said today (Monday) that a shipment of smoked rubber, which was on its way by train to Malaysia on the Hat Yai-Padang Besar line, is still scattered along the railway line in Khlong Ngae sub-district following the explosion.

Troops have been posted at the scene to protect workers as they complete the repairs and remove the derailed cars.

Meanwhile, police have been checking CCTV from the scene of the explosion and nearby areas in an effort to pick up any clues as to who might be have been involved in the sabotage, which is believed by security officials to have been an attempt to undermine the local economy.

Several people who were near the scene on the day of the explosion have been invited for questioning, but none of them have been found to be involved in the incident.
