Thai restaurant operator Minor Food Group has acquired a 50.1 per cent stake in local cafe company Gaga Beverages for an undisclosed sum as part of its plan to expand the retail beverage business.
“Given Gaga’s strong brand recognition both offline and online, the brand has great potential to scale,” said Anhul Chauhan, CEO of Minor Food.
Gaga was founded in 2018 under the concept of ‘Attitude in a Cup’ with a menu spanning a variety of tea and non-tea beverage offerings. The coffee chain now has 29 stores across the country.
Chauhan said in addition to Gaga’s home market, Minor Food will bring the brand to other potential overseas markets in Asia and the Middle East.
“Gaga’s beverage category will solidify and complement our existing food brand portfolio,” said Dillip Rajakarier, CEO of Minor International. “Its members have strong engagement with the brand and is a testament to its brand strength.”
“We will capitalise on this partnership to cement Minor Food’s leading position in Thailand’s restaurant and food retail industry.”
Minor Food Group operates more than 2300 stores across 27 countries and regions worldwide. Last October, the restaurant operator brought Singapore-based French restaurant chain Poulet into Thailand, opening the first store inside CentralWorld. Minor Group’s portfolio of brands includes The Pizza Company, Swensen’s, Burger King, The Coffee Club and Bonchon.
