It’s no secret that most of us fail to see our resolutions through the whole year.
Don’t start worrying just yet! Doctors and self-help authors have come up with ways for you to make good on your goals.
Resolutions don’t have to be too intimidating for you to make and keep. These following tips may be able to help you set your goals for the New Year and the rest of 2023.
Do what’s right for you
We live in a society that’s constantly telling us what we should aspire to be. By thinking of resolutions that address your own wants and needs, they’ll become more meaningful for you.
Once you’ve got an idea, make it as specific as possible. Setting concrete goals will allow you to visualize your progress.

Make a plan
You’ll need to plan ahead if you want to achieve your goals.
Charles Duhigg, author of The Power of Habit, says that once you’ve identified the cue, routine, and reward of your bad habits, you can help yourself find more productive alternatives.
For example, people who have difficulty exercising can condition their bodies and minds by simply putting on work out clothes. This can serve as your new cue to psych yourself up for the activity.
Add to your routine little by little, first by going for short walks then increasing the length of your route or your walking speed.
Finally, you need to remember to reward yourself after accomplishing your task. You can treat yourself with a long cool down and track your achievements so you can see how far you’ve come.
Make room for setbacks
As the year goes on, you’ll likely come face to face with hurdles that stand between you and your resolutions. There’ll be days when work and social obligations will leave very little time for yourself.
If it’s too difficult to exercise at the same time every day, allow yourself some flexibility and go for a run whenever your schedule allows.
Even if you’re not consistent with your resolution, it’s still better than giving up completely.
It’s never too late to start
Self-improvement doesn’t have to start on New Year. Even if you forget about your resolution at some point in the year, don’t be afraid to restart at any time.
Lifestyle changes don’t happen overnight. Be kind to yourself, learn from the setbacks, and try and try again.
