Most people will do a double take when they see the traditional saucy, white Alabama chicken wings for the first time. If you’re not from the South USA, most people assume that all wings should be buffalo or spicy and red, so that white sauce throws people off. Although unusual they happen to be utterly delicious.
This is the latest in our series of tasty recipes that feature just 7 simple ingredients. They are all super tasty and easy to make by people of any cooking ability.
Although some versions of this classic BBQ sauce feature dozens of ingredients, we have kept things simple with the same great taste. You could also add a little fresh horseradish or extra herbs, too.
White Alabama Chicken Wings: Ingredients
- Chicken wings
- Cider vinegar
- Chilli powder
- Cajun seasoning
- Lemon
- Garlic
- Mayonnaise
Start by placing the wings on a tray with foil, coating them with the cajun seasoning and chilli powder.
Add a drizzle of sunflower oil and season then with a generous amount of salt and pepper.
Make sure the wings are evenly coated by tossing them around using a pair of tongs.
Place the tray into an oven at 200C / 400F for about 20-25 minutes.
While the wings are cooking, make the sauce by adding the vinegar to the mayo.
Next, add the juice of the lemon and some cracked black pepper.
When the wings are cooked through and nice and crispy on the outside, take them out of the oven. Let them cool for about 5 minutes.
Add the wings to the sauce in a large bowl.
Toss them around until the wings are nicely coated in the sauce and shake off any excess.
Plate them up with a simple salad or some fries. They are creamy and zingy on the outside, yet nicely fiery and juicy on the inside. A wonderful combination.
Once you taste these white Alabama chicken wings you’ll see why they’re such a down home comfort food.
