Bangkok has been listed as one of the world’s top five tourist destinations in Airbnb.com’s 2023 rankings, based on the searches for hotel bookings during the first three quarters of last year compared to the same period a year before.
According to Airbnb, other cities in Thailand, popular among tourists from the United States, Europe and Asia-Pacific countries such as South Korea, Australia and China, are Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui.
A Government House source said that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is pleased with Airbnb’s latest rankings for Bangkok and other cities in Thailand and it is expected that the searches for reservations during the lead-up to the Songkran festival in April will increase by about 300% compared to last year.
The Airbnb information, said the source, agrees with data from the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports, that the number of tourist arrivals in January this year have increased by 1,572.76% to 2,144,948 arrivals, compared to January last year when only 133,828 tourist arrivals were recorded.
