BRAINTREE − Police say they raided a commercial address on Mill Lane where candy containing the active ingredient in marijuana was illegally manufactured and packaged.

Acting on a tip, the Braintree Police Drug Control Unit executed a search warrant Friday and said they found “an illegal THC edible/gummy operation” at the address. THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical responsible for most of marijuana’s psychological effects.

Sheets of THC gummies were found cooling on racks along with thousands of already packaged gummies in various flavors, police said in a news release. Each package contained 10 gummies. Detectives estimated the street value of the gummies seized to be well over $100,000.

Police said they also found 17-liter bottles containing THC oil, some of which were full. A liter of THC oil sells for about $2,500 to $3,000 on the legal commercial market, police said.

They said the space contained commercial kitchen equipment, commercial packing materials and a large, high-end laser printer “presumably to create packages for the edibles.”

“It appeared that this space was used exclusively for the manufacture and packaging of THC edibles,” the news release said.

Police said the town has no information on file related to business at the address and that the owner of the property is not involved.

They said several people will face charges, including manufacturing a Class D Drug and marijuana trafficking. Police didn’t identify the suspects.

“Without regulation, edibles made illicitly could contain much higher amounts ofTHC, which can increase negative side effects,” Braintree police said. “Also, unregulated oils and ediblescan contain other toxic contaminants, and be dangerous to the health of users.”
