The newly opened Sydney Modern Project has created a museum experience across two buildings connected by a public art garden.

This marks the formal launch of the $344 million project, the largest government and philanthropic arts partnership of its kind in Australia.

It involved the construction of a new building, revitalization of our existing building, and significant landscape works.

Primarily, the new SANAA-designed building has nearly doubled the current exhibition space that connects indoor and outdoor areas.

Moreover, it has focused on the existing building designed by Tonkin Zulaikha Greer Architects to restore original architectural features. This is on top of providing additional space for art and scholarship and enhancing visitor experience and sustainable operations.

“The New South Wales Government is proud to be leading the way in arts and culture investment to deliver this once-in-a-generation project, which will yield incredible benefit for people across NSW. The Art Gallery is an institution with a truly ambitious vision, supporting partnerships, educational programming, sector connections, and leadership. This is ‘Art for all’ to inspire joy, connection, and enrichment,” Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, the Arts, Regional Youth, and Tourism Ben Franklin said.
