The 141-year-old bookstore plans to archive the 42 handwritten letters, totaling 150 pages. It will be available for Dylan’s fans and scholars to study, auctioneer RR Auction said in a statement. Livraria Lello bought the collection for $670,000.
According to the South China Morning Post, some of the letters include the songwriter’s plans to change his name. He shared this with his school sweetheart, Barbara Ann Hewitt, between 1957 and 1959 when he went by his original name, Bob Zimmerman. In addition, the now 81-year-old penned his dreams of selling a million records.
Today, Dylan has sold approximately 125 million records and is the current Nobel Laureate in Literature, the first songwriter to be awarded the honor.
