The house featured on Netflix’s “The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals” is now for sale.

Found in Joshua Tree National Park, the Invisible House sits on 90 acres of land and spans roughly 5,500 square feet.

Its entire exterior is made of reflective glass that mirrors the landscape, allowing the house to blend in with its surroundings.

Chris Hanley, movie producer, artist, and owner of the house, says that it “Looks completely different depending on the weather and the time of day.”

The Hanleys were inspired by their friend’s famous words. It was the late Andy Warhol who said “Land really is the best art.” The idea was also inspired by the black cuboid monolith in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

It was built to be as environmentally sustainable as possible, using eco-friendly materials and relying on solar power for electricity and heating.

Inside the home, it was intended to feel like “One large, floating space, with as few partition walls as possible.” Three sides of the home have sliding glass doors that open to the outdoors.

There’s a primary room at one end of the house and two other bedrooms on the other side. Between these bedrooms is a spacious open-plan living area with a 100-foot-long indoor swimming pool.

It took six years to build the house. Just having all that glass delivered took an entire year. Construction was finished in 2019 and the house has since been rented by celebrities such as Diplo, Demi Lovato, and Lizzo.

When asked why they decided to sell the now iconic house, the Hanleys said that they wanted to move on to their next project. “It’s a cultural phenomenon. Art just kind of like, moves on and gets absorbed by the culture,” Mr. Hanley says.

The Invisible House is by far the most expensive listing in the area. Luxury real estate agent Aaron Kirman says “It’s definitely expensive for Joshua Tree. But good pieces of art command premium prices.”
