PUTRAJAYA, Jan 28 — Malaysia has condemned in the strongest terms the killing of at least 10 Palestinians by the Israeli occupation forces at Palestine’s West Bank City of Jenin and its refugee camp on Thursday (January 26).
According to Malaysian Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra)’s statement on Saturday, Malaysia urged responsible members of the international community and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to immediately respond to this latest Israeli aggression.
“The Israeli regime and the perpetrators of this heinous crime must be held accountable. The victims and their families deserve justice.
“It is a known fact that Israel’s intransigence and aggression against the Palestinians continue to be a real obstacle in finding a comprehensive, just, lasting, and peaceful resolution to the Palestine-Israel conflict,” said the statement.
Malaysia reaffirms its long-held position and stands that the Palestinians deserve their own independent state, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Earlier, international media reported that at least eight people were killed and 10 others injured in a shooting attack in a settlement in East Jerusalem on Friday night.
The attack began at a synagogue before spreading to a street in the neighbourhood, which came hours after Palestinian militants from the Gaza Strip fired rockets into Israel, and retaliated by launching airstrikes.
According to Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency service, several people were being treated for life-threatening injuries and the assailant had been shot dead, reported Xinhua. — Bernama
