One juvenile has been booked into jail on charges of murder after a Thursday shooting in a west Valley neighborhood that left one man dead, Phoenix police said.

Just before 7 p.m. on Thursday, authorities responded to a shooting near 35th Avenue and McClellan Boulevard.

Officers could not find the shooting victim upon arrival despite reporting that the scene looked like a shooting had taken place, police said. The department then coordinated a search for anyone involved.

As the search was being conducted, an unidentified juvenile boy contacted officers at the Phoenix Police headquarters, according to authorities. The juvenile was later determined to have been involved in the shooting.

Officers were able to use the information from the juvenile to find a 41-year-old man who had been shot in the area of 41st Avenue and Missouri Avenue. The man was pronounced dead on the scene, according to police.

The juvenile involved in the shooting was later arrested and booked into jail on alleged homicide charges, according to Phoenix detectives.

The police department said the shooting investigation remains ongoing as homicide detectives investigate the details that led up to the incident.
