Pheu Thai Party’s advisory chief Paetongtarn Shinawatra is the most favoured candidate for the prime minister’s post, followed by Move Forward Party Leader Pita Limjaroenrat and Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha of the United Thai Nation Party, according to the latest opinion poll conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA).

NIDA organised a simple random sample survey by conducting phone interviews with 2,000 respondents aged over 18-year-old, in various occupations and from different educational backgrounds across the country.

The poll shows 38.20% of the respondents favour Paetongtarn for the next premiership, followed by 15.75% for Pita and 15.65% for incumbent Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Among the other candidates, the poll shows 5.10% for Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan of the Thai Sang Thai Party,4.45% for Thai Liberal Party Leader Pol Gen Sereepisuth Temeeyaves, 2.35% for Democrat Party Leader Jurin Laksanawisit,  1.60% for Pheu Thai Party Leader Cholnan Srikaew, 1.55% for Bhumjaithai Party Leader Anutin Charnvirakul and 1.40% for Chart Pattana Kla Party Leader Korn Chatikavanij.

For constituency MPs, the survey shows 49.75% of the respondents favour the Pheu Thai Party, 17.40% the Move Forward Party, 11.75% the United Thai Nation Party, 5.40% for the Democrat Party, 2.95% for the Thai Sang Thai Party, 2.70% for the Bhumjaithai Party, 2.60% for the Thai Liberal Party and 2.15% for the Palang Pracharath Party.

For party-list MPs, 49.85% favour the Pheu Thai Party,17.15% the Move Forward Party, 12.15% the United Thai Nation Party, 4.95% the Democrat Party, 2.85% the Thai Liberal Party, 2.60% the Thai Sang Thai Party, 2.55% theBhumjaithai Party and 2.30% the Palang Pracharath Party.

Meanwhile, Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana of the United Thai Nation Party said today (Sunday) that the party will announce its constituency candidates before the launch of a major campaign rally in each region, led by the current prime minister.

He added that the party is yet to announce its candidate or candidates for the prime minister’s post.

Pheu Thai Party Leader Cholnan Srikaew and key party members met today with tourism operators and representatives of fishermen in Chon Buri and Rayong provinces, to woo their support in their attempt to dethrone the Pitutecha family, which dominates the local politics in Rayong.

Meanwhile, Palang Pracharath Party Leader General Prawit Wongsuwan has a tight schedule leading the party’s campaign rallies in both Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai provinces today and tomorrow.
