The first two seasons were filmed at Four Seasons resorts in Hawaii and Italy. The luxury hotel company has four properties in Thailand located in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, and the Golden Triangle.
The series’ premise is described as a social satire that “follows the vacations of various hotel guests over the span of a week as they relax and rejuvenate in paradise.
“But with each passing day, a darker complexity emerges in these picture-perfect travelers, the hotel’s cheerful employees, and the idyllic locale itself.”
“The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex,” said creator Mike White.
He had already previously hinted that the next installment may take place in Asia and focus on “death and Eastern religion and spirituality.”
The anthology series was renewed for a third season after only three episodes of season two had aired.
Production hasn’t begun yet and no casting announcements have been made. Sources say that White has been busy scoping locations in Thailand.
There have been hints about previous cast members making a comeback but nothing has been set in stone just yet.
The White Lotus has received 10 Emmy Awards including Best Limited Series. The series also won two SAG awards, for Best TV Drama Ensemble and for Jennifer Coolidge’s performance.
Just this year, they won two Golden Globes, one for Best Anthology Series and one for Best Supporting Actress in a Series which went to Coolidge as well.
